EU sanctions against Russia to remain in place until full implementation of Minsk deal: Juncker

President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker assured Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during a telephone conversation Wednesday that the EU remained a reliable partner of Ukraine and expressed confidence that Ukrainians would soon be able to enjoy all benefits of visa-free travel to the EU, the president`s press service reports.

”The parties have discussed the deterioration of the security situation in Donbas. The president of the European Commission assured that the EU kept firmly advocating for Ukraine`s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” reads the report.

In this regard, Jean-Claude Juncker ”emphasized the importance for the sanctions against Russia to stay in place until full implementation of the Minsk agreements by Moscow.”

The Ukrainian president informed Juncker on the progress of Ukraine on the track of reforms that got a new boost due to the formation of new pro-European coalition and Government.

Petro Poroshenko is confident that the consultative referendum in the Netherlands will not become an insurmountable circumstance for the Association Agreement to enter into force, according to his press service.

”The Head of State expressed gratitude to the President of the European Commission for proposing to the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament to establish the visa-free regime with Ukraine,” reads the report.
