EU Council to discuss more sanctions against Russia

Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union convenes an emergency meeting in Brussels on Thursday, January 29. The foreign ministers of EU member states will discuss the situation in Ukraine and the subsequent strengthening of restrictive measures against Russia.
The meeting will begin at 16.00, an Ukrinform correspondent in Brussels reported.
“Urgent meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council will focus on deterioration of security and humanitarian situation in eastern Ukraine, which occurred after the shelling and killing of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. The EU foreign ministers will sum up the situation and discuss appropriate measures, in particular, the following sanctions – restrictive measures aiming at rapid and comprehensive implementation of the Minsk agreements”, the EU Council press service reported.
In addition, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin will be on a visit to Brussels on Thursday, where he will meet with the leaders of the EU and NATO Secretary General.
As reported, the European Union plans to prepare new restrictive measures against Russia and extend sanctions for the annexation of Crimea, which expire in March, until the end of the year.
