European structures had to violate the officially established rules for the publication of legislative acts in order to fulfill the promise regarding the date of enforcement of a visa-free travel for Ukrainians, according to Europeiska Pravda.
As reported earlier, on Monday the Official Journal of the European Union published the decision on the abolition of visas for Ukrainian citizens and thereby determined the date for the beginning of an actual visa-free travel. However, the release of this publication faced certain problems, the newspaper reports.
The fact is that the EU`s Official Journal, publishing all legislative acts before their coming into force, is not traditionally released on Mondays. According to the rules, the journal publishes legislative acts from Tuesday to Saturday.
However, had the publication of the visa waiver act in the Journal been postponed for at least one day, the Ukrainian visa-free regime would not have been able to enter into force June 11, as Ukraine`s partners earlier pledged.
An exception was made for the Ukrainian issue in order to comply with the political pledge.
The decision on Ukraine is the only one published in the extraordinary issue of the Official Journal.
Thus, on the night of June 11, the citizens of Ukraine, holders biometric passports, will be entitled to visa-free entry to the EU member states and the Schengen Zone countries outside the European Union.
