Elections held in organized and peaceful manner – OSCE observers

Early parliamentary elections in Ukraine are being held in an organized and peaceful manner.
The head of the observation mission of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Doris Barnett, said this at a polling station at Officers House in Kyiv on Sunday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“What we saw today are well-organized polling stations to which many people come, but they do not have to queue for a long time,” Barnett said.
She also noted the peaceful expression of popular will.
“We are very happy right now that the elections are being held peacefully. Despite the fact that many people come to polling stations, the elections are being held peacefully given what we have seen,” she said.
Kent Harstedt, OSCE special coordinator and leader of the short-term OSCE observer mission, in turn, said that the current elections for the Verkhovna Rada were being held in a difficult situation, “because part of territories was illegally annexed by another country.” In addition, he noted the presence of thousands of displaced persons and the difficult economic situation in Ukraine.
