Cold snap threatens future fruit harvest in Ukraine – weather expert

Deterioration of weather conditions and frosts to minus 1-4 degrees Celsius at night threaten the future harvest of fruit trees in Ukraine, chief weather forecaster of Natalia Didenko wrote on Facebook.

”A short sharp cold snap can be dangerous for the delicate blossoms of future fruits. But what about a prolonged cold?” she wrote, adding that warming in Ukraine is not expected in the coming week.

According to Didenko, heavy precipitation, rain, and occasional wet snow are possible in the south, east and center of the country in the near future.

In this regard, she urged the agrarians to take measures to protect flowering trees from a sharp temperature drop.

Earlier, the State Service for Emergency Situations had warned about worsening weather conditions across Ukraine. Below-zero temperatures are expected at night due to the Arctic air inflows on April 18-22.

Head of the agrometeorological department of the Hydrometeorological Center Tetiana Adamenko reported April 11 that weather conditions in Ukraine contributed to the normal development of spring crops, which the farmers started sowing in early March.
