Chubarov: Minsk can`t remain venue for talks on Donbas

Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainian MP Refat Chubarov has said that Minsk cannot continue to be the venue for meetings and negotiations on issues related to Russia`s aggression against Ukraine.

”The truth is that on the eve of the meeting (November 15, 2016) of the UN [General Assembly] Third Committee, Russia entrusted Belarus the role of a swindler, whose aim was the failure of the consideration of a draft resolution on the human rights situation in Russian-occupied Crimea,” he wrote on Facebook.

Chubarov said that the responsibility for this role of Belarus was assigned to the official authorities of the country.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the UN General Assembly`s human rights committee, in its first action on Crimea, adopted a resolution drafted by Ukraine and backed by the United States, France, and Britain by a vote of 73 to 23 on November 15, with 76 abstentions. Belarus was among the 23 countries that voted against the document.

The resolution condemned abuses and discrimination in Crimea, which Russia seized in February 2014. Moscow`s annexation was not recognized by the UN, and the resolution calls it a ”temporary occupation.”

The resolution next month goes for a vote before the full assembly, which is expected to approve it.
