Canada to give Ukraine body armors, helmets at $5 mln

Canada will provide military equipment to Ukraine in the amount of $5 million, Canadian Defence Minister Rob Nicholson has said, according to the Podrobnosti online edition.
“Canada’s contribution, in the amount of up to $5 million through Canada’s Global Peace and Security Fund (GPSF), includes a range of targeted protection, medical and logistical equipment, such as helmets, ballistic eyewear, protective vests, first aid kits, tents and sleeping bags,” reads a press release of the office of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
The equipment will help strengthen border security in Ukraine by enhancing Ukraine’s capacity to detect the illicit movement of goods and people.
The assistance is provided in response to Ukraine’s request for non-kinetic (non-lethal) security assistance.
