Belgium supports introduction of visa-free regime between Ukraine and EU

Belgium is ready to support a positive decision on Ukraine in the issue of visa-free regime with the European Union, said Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders, according to the press service of Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze.

”Reynders confirmed that Ukraine had fulfilled all of its obligations under the Visa Liberalization Action Plan, and Belgium was ready to support a positive decision on Ukraine. This will happen as soon as the issue of a visa waiver suspension mechanism will be resolved in a trialogue between the European institutions,” the press service said.

During a meeting with Reynders, which took place in the framework of Klympush-Tsintsadze`s working visit to Brussels, she expressed her gratitude to the Belgian side for the continued support of Ukraine, its territorial integrity and sovereignty. She also informed the Belgian officuals about the situation in Ukraine, the changes as a result of large-scale reform, primarily in the areas of judiciary, fighting against corruption, and decentralization of power.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and the status of implementation of the Minsk agreements. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze expressed gratitude for Belgium having become a co-author of Ukraine`s UN resolution on human rights violations in the Russian-annexed Crimea.

The parties exchanged views on topical issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU.

Both sides welcomed the intensification of political dialogue between Ukraine and Belgium, including its parliamentary dimension, the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, the restoration of positive dynamics of trade and economic relations, as well as the considerable potential of bilateral cooperation in the sphere of culture.
