A thousand foreigners are fighting on the side of Ukraine in the antiterrorist operation in the east of the country and all of them are members of volunteer battalions.
A representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major-General Oleksandr Rozmaznin, said this at a press conference in the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, Ukrinform’s correspondent reports.
“There are people who are sympathizing with our country, who came to provide direct assistance to us… It’s probably a thousand or maybe more people who made a choice in favor of our country,” Rozmaznin said.
He added that among those fighting on the side of Ukraine were citizens of the United States, France, and Russia, from where, he said, there are even officers and soldiers in active service.
All foreign fighters are included into Ukrainian volunteer battalions, General Rozmaznin said.
He added that participation in the fighting on the side of Ukraine gives foreigners the right to acquire Ukrainian nationality.
