Operational report August 19, 2022 by the General Staff of AFU on the Russian invasion of Ukraine

177 days have passed since the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine.

Russian invaders continue to launch airstrikes and missiles against civilian targets around Ukraine.

In the Volyn’ and Polissia directions, there were no indications that violent organizations had been formed. The Air Force and Air Defense units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus are conducting training exercises. The possibility of airstrikes and missile launches from the enemy territory into Ukrainian airspace still exists.

The Russian army shelled the Myropillia and Pavlivka in Sumy oblast, as well as the Pushkari villages in Chernihiv oblast, the Siverskyi direction, Ukraine.

Russian assassins destroyed civilian infrastructure in the Kharkiv, Protopopivka, Petrivka, Slatyne, Velyki Prohody, Korobochkyne, Milova, and Husarivka settlement areas with barrel and rocket artillery. In the vicinity of Staryi Saltiv and Yavirske, Russian airstrikes were conducted. The Russian Federation continues to conduct illegal intense unmanned aerial vehicle reconnaissance.

The Russian occupants made an effort to strengthen their tactical position close to Pytomnyk, Ukraine but were rebuffed and fled. The ground in the Staryi and Verkhnyi Saltiv areas was demined remotely.

The Russian army launched fire damage from tanks, barrel and rocket artillery at Dibrivne, Virnopillia, Chepil and Bohorodychne in the direction of Sloviansk, Ukraine.

In the vicinity of the Ukrainian communities of Karnauhivka, Dibrivne, Virnopillya, and Dolyna, the Russian troops attempted efforts to breach Ukrainian soldiers’ positions. They suffered setbacks and fled shamefully.

Russian shelling was heard near Sivers’k, Hryhorivka, Berestove, and Ivano-Daryivka in the direction of Kramatorsk.

With offensive and attack tactics, the Russian soldiers attempted to get closer to Vyimka and Ivano-Daryivka but were soundly defeated and forced to retire.

The Russian units opened fire in the vicinity of the Ukrainian settlements of Svitle, Soledar, Berestove, Vershyna, Bilohorivka, Zalizne, and Yakovlivka in the direction of Bakhmut using tanks, barrel and rocket artillery, and other weapons. Strikes near Soledar and Yakovlivka in Ukraine were conducted by Russia using aviation.

In the vicinity of the communities of Bakhmut, Soledar, Kodema, Bahmutske, and Zaytseve, Russian invaders conducted offensive and assault operations, but failed.

The communities of Novoukrayinka, Krasnohorivka, Vodiane, Mariyinka, Shevchenko, Lastochkyne, Avdiyivka, and Opytne were all impacted by Russian fire in the Avdiivka region. In the vicinity of Maryinka, Novoselivka Druga, and Nevelskyi, the Russian army conducted airstrikes. In the neighbourhoods of the Ukrainian towns of Opytne, Pisky, and Maiorsk, Russia organized an unsuccessful attack but failed and retreated.

Russian shelling was reported in the vicinity of Velyka Novosilka, Pavlivka, Novomyhailivka, and Zolota Nyva in the Novopavlivskyi direction. Airstrikes by the Russian Federation were fired close to Pavlivka and Novomykhaylivka in Ukraine. The Russian soldiers attempted to enhance their tactical position close to Novomykhaylivka but failed, incurred losses, and withdrew.

The Russian army used barrel and jet artillery as well as tanks to shell the neighbourhoods of the Ukrainian towns of Samiylivka, Huliaypole, Preobrazhenka, Mala Tokmachka, Poltavka, Novosilka, Temyrivka, Zaliznychne, and Novoandriyivka in the direction of Zaporizhia. It conducted airstrikes close to Novosilka, Dorozhnianka, and Shcherbaky. Russian illegal active reconnaissance of Ukrainian anti-aircraft soldiers’ locations was conducted.

The Russian Federation focussed its efforts on stopping Ukrainian Defence forces’ progress and replacing casualties in the direction of South Buh in Ukraine. Along the entire contact line, it kept shelling with tanks and various types of artillery. Russia carried out airstrikes near Mykolayivske, Nove Zhyttia, Pervomayske, Bila Krynytsya, and Lozove.

Russian troops attempted to use assault tactics to get past Ukrainian fortifications in the vicinity of the Kirov settlement in Ukraine. They had losses as a result of the fire damage, and it fled haphazardly. Drones were actively involved by Russia in illegal aerial reconnaissance.

The Russian Federation’s naval force continues to assist ground Russian soldiers’ operations in the Black and Azov seas in Ukraine, hinder civilian commerce in the Black Sea’s northwest corner, and destroy infrastructure and other items deep within Ukrainian territory.

Where active engagements are ongoing, Ukrainian defenders cause casualties to the Russian invaders in all directions.
