Since Russia’s attack on Ukraine, NATO has been reviving its core mission of defending members from outside aggression. As the illusion of a cooperative Kremlin has evaporated, the two key challenges are to contain Moscow’s ambitions and to reinforce NATO’s vulnerable eastern flank.
