Court in Kyiv approved detention of separatist leader Zakharchenko
On 8 February, the Court of Appeal in Kyiv approved the detention of the separatist leader, Alexander Zakharchenko, as reported by the press service of the Court.
The decision was made based on a complaint filed by the General Prosecutor’s Office against the decision of the Shevchenko District Court of Kyiv on 14 December 2016, when judges refused to detain Zakharchenko.
Zakharchenko should be detained in order to be brought before the court to determine whether he should be remanded to custody as a preventive measure.
Zakharchenko is suspected of creating and leading the Donetsk People’s Republic.
