European leaders make a surprise trip for peace talks, in the latest bid to end the escalating conflict in Ukraine

The German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande are making a joint diplomatic push for an end to the crisis in Ukraine.
The two leaders will travel together on a surprise visit to Kiev and Moscow this week to stage separate peace talks with Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Putin. The diplomatic efforts will be “based on Ukraine’s territorial integrity”.
