TALLINN, Estonia (AP) — Early results showed Estonia’s center-right ruling coalition leading Sunday in the country’s parliamentary election, which has been dominated by economic issues and security concerns due to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
Polls had indicated a close race between Prime Minister Taavi Roivas’ Reform Party-led coalition and Edgar Savisaar’s Center Party, the main opposition party, which is favored by the country’s ethnic Russians.
Even though Estonia is a NATO member, many are worried that Moscow might try to boost its influence in the country, a former Soviet republic where one-fourth of the 1.3 million residents are ethnic Russians. …read more
