On September 1, Kyiv’s School No. 309 welcomed 218 children from families displaced from the country’s embattled east. At a back-to-school ceremony, the school director said she admired the children’s “courage and loyalty to Ukraine.” The wife of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Maryna Poroshenko, who also attended the ceremony, told journalists the displaced children were “part of the Ukrainian family.” (RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service) …read more
