I wish that a government spokesperson would explain how Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s polite gesture could lead to progress.
Putin can have no doubts about our government’s position on the sequence of events that began in Kyiv early this year. Harper’s petulant remarks will not change Putin’s mind.
I would contrast our government’s actions with those of Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel. Although she is reputed to be very angry with Putin, she met with him for four hours. For part of that time, the two were alone; …read more
