The free trade deal between Canada and Ukraine announced Tuesday marks a further milestone for the beleaguered country in its struggle for freedom from Russian domination. After the violence and tumult of the past year and a half — the Maidan revolution that outsted the Russian-backed president Viktor Yanukovych in the winter of 2014, the Russian invasion of the Crimea the following spring, and the contining conflict in the Donbass region between pro-Ukraine and pro-Russian forces — the deal is a peaceful way to offer support for Ukrainian aspirations.
