Yatseniuk: reforms are our last chance

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that EU membership “remains Ukraine’s ultimate dream,” and “serious reforms are the last chance” for Kyiv.
The head of the Ukrainian government said this in an interview with German magazine Der Spiegel.
“And we know that in order to [join the EU], we certainly need successful reforms in Ukraine, even if they are painful,” Yatseniuk said.
He said that young Ukrainian people who want Ukraine to join Europe are the “biggest trump card” in this process.
Yatseniuk also said that the U.S. and the EU demonstrated great unity in their policy towards the Kremlin, including through the introduction of sanctions.
According to Yatseniuk, “the West does what it can” in this situation, given “limited room for maneuver regarding Putin.”
“He [Putin] thought he could split the EU, but, on the contrary, the EU introduced and strengthened sanctions [against Russia],” Yatseniuk said.
