US urges Russia to de-escalate situation in Donbas before G20 summit in November

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew has urged Russia to take steps to resolve the situation in Donbas before the G20 summit, which is to be held in Australia in November.
He said on Sunday that he expected such steps from Russia, the Segodnya newspaper reported.
“I think what’s clear is that the goal between now and November is for this to be resolved so that these issues are on a path towards improvement, and it is quite a way from now until November,” U.S. media quoted Lew as saying.
In his opinion, the Russian side should start working” on a diplomatic basis so that Ukraine can get back to the business of healing itself and growing its economy.”
Lew said that the United States and Europe were ready to continue to cooperate in the issue of sanctions against Russia “as long as Russia continues to threaten Ukraine’s sovereignty, to participate directly or indirectly in the military actions there.”
