United States transfers 35 armored SUVs to Ukrainian border guards

The U.S. authorities have transferred 35 armored SUVs and equipment to the separate commandant’s office on security and provision of the Ukrainian State Border Service in Bortnychi in order to strengthen Ukrainian border units.
The event was held on Saturday with the participation of First Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian State Border Service Major-General Vasyl Servatiuk and Head of the Law Enforcement Section at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Christopher Smith, the press office of the State Border Service reported.
“As part of a project on international technical assistance provided by the U.S. government the border agency received 35 armored Volkswagen Amarok and Toyota Land Cruiser 200 SUVs and 2,300 sets of protective clothing,” reads the report.
In 2015, Ukrainian border guards are also to get automotive equipment, thermal imaging devices, portable and fixed radio stations and personal protective equipment worth nearly $10 million.
Smith also said that if necessary, the State Border Service would be provided with expert assistance and that a training base would be set up at an education institution of the State Border Service.
