UN says downing of Boeing plane in eastern Ukraine is a war crime

The shooting down by terrorists of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 over Ukraine can be regarded as a war crime.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay sid this in connection with the publication on Monday of a new report on the situation in east Ukraine, the UN website reported.
“This violation of international law, given the prevailing circumstances, may amount to a war crime. It is imperative that a prompt, thorough, effective, independent and impartial investigation be conducted into this event,” Pillay said.
She said that all those involved in the conflict, including foreign fighters, that every effort will be made to ensure that anyone committing serious violations of international law including war crimes will be brought to justice.
She called on all sides “to bring to an end the rule of the gun and restore respect for the rule of law and human rights.”
