Ukrtransgaz to be divided into two companies: operators of gas pipelines and USFv

Ukrtransgaz, the operator of the gas transportation system (GTS) and underground storage facilities (USFs) of natural gas, will be divided into two new state-owned companies – the operator of GTS ”Main Gas Pipelines of Ukraine” and the operator of USFs ”Underground Gas Storage Facilities of Ukraine,” the press service of NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, the largest Ukrainian state energy holding, reports.
”It is expected to create JSC ”Main Gas Pipelines of Ukraine” and JSC ”Underground gas storage facilities of Ukraine,” which will get the relevant assets of PJSC Ukrtransgaz, whose 100% of the shares will remain in state ownership,” the report reads.
According to the press service, standards of corporate governance on the principles of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development will be introduced in the companies-operators.
”The relevant regulations will be prepared in 2016-2017,” the report says.
In addition, the press-service informs that according to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on the restructuring of Naftogaz, gas transmission assets will be transferred to the newly-established operator only after the final decision on the claims between Naftogaz and the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom rendered by the Stockholm arbitration.
According to the plan of Naftogaz`s separation, before the USFs are transferred to the new operator, a deep economic and technical analysis of the natural gas storage facilities will be held in order to determine the most effective model of their use and management.
