Ukrtransgaz completes repairs of Ukraine-Poland gas pipeline, ready to resume import

Ukrtransgaz, the operator of the gas transportation system (GTS) and underground storage facilities (USFs), has completed the repairs of Komarno-Drozdowicze (Ukraine-Poland) pipeline and is ready to carry out natural gas imports from Poland, Maksym Bielawski, the spokesperson for state-owned Ukrtransgaz, wrote on Facebook.
”Starting from today, Ukrtransgaz is ready to import gas from Poland for the country`s needs. Repairs of the reverse pipeline have been completed,” he wrote.
The company reported that the Komarno-Drozdowicze pipeline was put out of service in May. In early July, work was carried out to eliminate the identified defects and replace certain pipeline sections. A total of 3.4 kilometers of the pipeline was repaired.
”Work has been completed to connect the repaired pipeline (fire operations, purging and filling the pipeline with gas) to a unified gas transportation system of Ukraine. We are waiting for [transportation] applications,” the spokesperson wrote.
As of July 8, gas imports from Europe to Ukraine in the daily volume of 0.5 million cubic meters were carried out only via Slovak route.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrtransgaz intends to attract loan funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank to finance a large-scale infrastructure project. It provides for carrying out of repairs, reconstruction and modernization of the Ukrainian part of the Urengoy – Pomary – Uzhgorod natural gas pipeline. According to EBRD, total costs are estimated at EUR 300 million. Relevant tenders will be announced in Q3 2016.
UNIAN memo. Ukrtransgaz operates 12 USFs with a total active capacity of about 31 billion cubic meters. USFs are an integral part of Ukraine`s gas supply and gas transit system through its territory. 100% of shares of Ukrtransgaz are owned by NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
