Ukrainian Government asks Rada to OK bill on recovering $1.5 bln of assets stolen by Yanukovych team

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has submitted for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on special confiscation, which, if adopted, will help return to the state budget $1.5 billion of assets seized from the criminals from the previous government.

The corresponding decision was taken at a government meeting on Wednesday, September 14.

”The Ukrainian government submits for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on amendments to some legislative acts on ensuring the recovery to the state of undue assets … We appeal to the members of parliament to immediately adopt it. We have dispelled all the myths that the bill does not meet the European standards,” Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko said while presenting the bill.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Transparency International has stated that recovering of assets stolen during the Yanukovych regime through international courts will be impossible without relevant decisions of the Ukrainian courts.
