Ukraine`s SBU, UN to jointly monitor detention facilities

Ukraine has reached an agreement with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ivan Simonovic to create a joint monitoring group to prevent tortures in detention centers, that`s according to Head of Ukrainian Security Service Vasyl Hrytsak who spoke at a Kyiv briefing Monday, Ukraine Today reports.
”Last week we had a meeting with Mr Šimonovi? and a very productive discussion about the establishment of a joint group that would solve these issues online to prevent any further accusations of tortures,” Hrytsak said, according to Ukraine Today.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the UN on Friday accused in its report both the Ukrainian authorities and Russian-backed separatist forces of torturing prisoners.
