Ukraine`s parliament speaker sees NATO membership as strategic direction

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine`s parliament, Andriy Parubiy says that NATO membership is a strategic direction for Ukraine, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
”Accession to NATO is a strategic direction for Ukraine, and the sooner we manage that path, the better it will be for the security of every our citizen,” he told TV Channel Rada.
He also said he was planning to participate in a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council, which is scheduled to take place in Ukraine`s parliament next week.
He said he would give a speech there.
”The key issue of the Ukraine-NATO [Interparliamentary Council] meeting in parliament is security reform,” he said.
He also claims Ukraine`s army has undergone serious reform.
”I can say responsibly that today our army is completely different from that early in 2014,” he said.
”There is an ambitious goal to introduce NATO standards into the Ukrainian army until 2020,” he added.
