Ukraine`s Defense Ministry elaborates on military reserve

Ukrainian military reserve involves more than 85,000 citizens, speaker for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernobay has told a news briefing in Kyiv Tuesday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

”To date, more than 85,000 citizens serve in the military reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Chernobay said.

Defense Ministry spokesman said that the AFU started large-scale tactical exercises involving live firing with the participation of military personnel who are part of the first stage operational reserve.

These exercises follow the training of reservists, earlier held at nine bases of the Ukrainian Army brigades with the participation of more than 8,000 troops.

”Soldiers will practice defensive and offensive combat, march, and overcoming water obstacles in different ways,” said the representative of the Defense Ministry.

According to him, the next phase of training of reservists will also result in their participation in brigade and tactical exercises with live fire.

Chernobay added that for the period of training, reservists shall not lose their civilian jobs.

As UNIAN reported earlier, President Petro Poroshenko said that Ukraine`s military reserve amounts to 80,000 men and women.
