Minister of temporarily occupied territories and IDPs Vadym Chernysh said the extraction of gas by the Russian Federation in Ukraine`s exclusive maritime zone in the Black Sea will be the subject of disputes.
The minister stated that a meeting was held on July 20, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister Stepan Kubiv, during which all departments working on Crimea`s de-occupation issues were heard.
”According to data that was confirmed yesterday, and also according to the preliminary estimates of experts, offshore extraction of Ukrainian natural gas in the country`s exclusive maritime zone continues. The gas is supplied to the occupied peninsula. In fact, they are using something that belongs to the Ukrainian people, under the Constitution of Ukraine,” Chernysh asserted.
The minister added that the same is relevant to the use of biological resources of the Black Sea.
”The use of those resources will also be the subject of court disputes and legal action by the Ukrainian state,” the minister announced, adding that Ukraine will refer to the rules of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Russia`s plans to build a bridge across the Kerch Strait were also raised during the government meeting.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Chornomornaftogaz is part of Naftogaz Ukraine and specializes in exploring and producing oil and gas in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. In 2014, drilling rigs and other property of Chornomornaftogaz were seized during the Russian annexation of the Crimea, due to which Naftogaz Ukraine lost control of its Crimean enterprises.
