Ukraine in talks with EU on free mobile roaming services

Ukraine will join the European Union`s common digital space, which means the abolition of charges for mobile roaming, according to ZN.ua.

The prospects for the use of a common EU-Ukraine-Eastern Partnership digital space were discussed at the ministerial meeting of the EU`s ”Digital Community” initiative with the participation of the EU Commissioner Gunther Oettinger and EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn, ZN.ua reports.

”According to the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, EU Commissioner Oettinger said that it was Ukraine who has the highest potential of digital development in Europe and the countries of the Eastern Partnership,” reads the statement.

Oettinger stressed the importance of a joint project with Ukraine to reduce roaming fees by introducing a common digital space.

The official said the project had been successfully implemented to reduce the cost of mobile communication services in such a way that the cost of roaming is almost like ”at home”.

In turn, Ukraine`s Economy Minister Stepan Kubiv noted that a similar project is also soon to start working between Europe and Ukraine.
