Ukraine stops pumping gas into its underground gas storage facilities

Ukraine has stopped pumping gas into its underground gas storage facilities (UGSFs) and begun taking gas from its UGSFs, Maksym Bielawski, the spokesperson for state-owned Ukrtransgaz, wrote on Facebook.

”Today Ukraine stopped pumping gas into its UGSFs and started taking gas from the storage facilities. The daily volume is 1.2 million cubic meters,” a statement read.

Ukraine`s gas storage facilities are filled with natural gas by 48%, it is reported. A total of 6.3 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas was pumped into the UGSFs, bringing gas stocks to 14.7 bcm.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine stopped taking gas from its UGSFs with the end of the heating season, and since April 7, 2016 gas stocks had been replenished.

In August-September, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine planned to pump 14.5 bcm of gas into its underground gas storage facilities by the start of the 2016-2017 heating season. However, in the end of August, the government decided on the need to bring the volume of gas stocks in the USFs to 17 bcm.

State-owned Naftogaz of Ukraine plans to buy gas using its own funds and a $300 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
