Ukraine sees cheese exports fall by 26%

Exports of Ukrainian cheese in January-March 2016 totaled 1.35 million tonnes, which was 26% down year-over-year, while exports in monetary terms decreased by 37% in the reporting period, to $3.87 million, according to Ukraine`s State Fiscal Service (SFS).
In real terms, the volume of cheese imports into Ukraine in the first quarter of 2016 (Q1, 2016) did not change as compared to the same period last year, but imports in monetary terms decreased by 1%, to $6.32 million, the SFS reported on its website referring to customs statistics.
Ukraine`s exports of non-condensed milk and cream in real terms decreased by 5% in Q1, 2016, to 2,100 tonnes, but exports in monetary terms increased by 5%, to $1.1 million. Imports of these products in the reporting period amounted to 93 tonnes, almost twice the volume in Q1, 2015. In monetary terms, imports of non-condensed milk and cream increased by 45% to $124,000.
The SFS also reported that shipments of Ukrainian condensed milk and cream onto foreign markets in real terms decreased by 25% in Q1, 2016, and measured in monetary terms, they declined by 37%, to 9,400 tonnes and $13 million, respectively. Imports of these products during the reporting period amounted to 182 tonnes, as compared to 99 tonnes a year earlier. In monetary terms, the imports increased by 52% to $328 million.
At the same time, Ukrainian exporters supplied 1,100 tonnes of butter onto foreign markets in January-March 2016, which was 16% down year-over-year. Exports of these products in monetary terms fell by 9% to $3.4 million.
Import of butter to Ukraine in physical terms increased to 501 tonnes during the reporting period, as compared to 94 tonnes in the same period last year. Measured in monetary terms, butter imports amounted to $1.6 million, as compared to $413,000 in the same period last year.
