Ukraine opens first proceeding for bribing voters

The first criminal proceedings for bribing voters started in Kharkiv.
The press service of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Kharkiv told Ukrinform.
“The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Kyivsky district of the city of Kharkiv included in the Unified Register information about criminal offenses under Article 157, Part 1 (obstruction of suffrage) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the press service said.
A representative of one of the candidates for people’s deputies of Ukraine approached the Public Prosecutor’s Office with an application about a violation.
“A man said that September 20-21, at the premises of one of schools, unknown persons handed out food parcels to Kharkiv residents. They also added an election leaflet of one of candidates to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” the press service quoted Prosecutor of the Kyivsky district of Kharkiv Oleksandr Budarny.
According to prosecutors, this is the first criminal proceeding, opened for bribing voters.
Currently a pretrial investigation is conducted.
