Ukraine MFA on possible visas with Russia: Risks being evaluated

Head of the Consular Service Department under the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleksandr Haman has said that the possible introduction of a visa regime for Russian citizens arriving in Ukraine is being analyzed by the ministry in view of risks.

”Risks from the possible introduction of visas for the citizens of Russia are being evaluated by the Foreign Ministry, and the issue has not come up just today,” he said, according to Radio Liberty.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy on October 3 proposed debates on the possibility of a visa regime with Russia and expanding sanctions against that country.

Addressing the coordination board of factions` and committees` chairmen on Monday, he recalled that in early 2016, he tabled a draft resolution in parliament, calling on the Cabinet of Ministers to terminate an agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Russia on visa-free travel.
