Ukraine, India mulling launch of joint aircraft production

Ukraine`s major state-owned arms manufacturer Ukroboronprom and Indian companies are developing a model aimed at laying the foundation of mutual cooperation between the two states in the defense sector, the Ukrainian company`s press service reported citing Deputy Director General for foreign economic activity Denis Hurak.
The Indian companies show interest in technologies developed by Antonov design bureau and already have a positive experience with using them. They have also identified the most popular aircraft models, namely, cargo and passenger aircraft based on An-148/158/178 series. Antonov`s An-188 and An-124 aircraft are also favored.
”We are focusing on these projects and move on to the main stage in order to make the right decision. One of the decisions is to attract an Indian company with which we are now developing a cooperation model,” the press service quoted Hurak as saying.
According to him, the cooperation will take place in the form of technology transfer.
”First, it is planned to set up a joint venture aimed to implement a joint project including by provision of funding, search of sales market, carrying out of market research and etc. The final goal is to set up the production of aircraft,” the press service said in a statement.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine`s major state-owned arms manufacturer Ukroboronprom for the first time presented technological developments of the Ukrainian military and industrial complex, in particular, domestic drones, at the Eurosatory 2016 international defense and security exhibition.
