Ukraine harvests over 51 mln tonnes of grain

Ukraine had threshed 51.4 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops, including maize, as of October 24 from 12.2 million hectares (ha), which is 85% of the plan, according to the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

The average grain yield is 4.23 tonnes per hectare.

Farmers have almost completed a campaign to harvest late grain crops. They harvested 187,000 tonnes of buckwheat from 146,000 ha (98%) and 185,000 tonnes of millet from 101,000 ha (97%).

The yield of maize was 12.5 million tonnes from 2.1 million ha (51% of the plan).

Sunflower seeds were threshed from 5.2 million ha (87%), the total yield was 11.3 million tonnes, while 3.2 million tonnes of soybeans were harvested from 1.5 million ha (81%).

Sugar beets were gathered from 197,000 ha, or 61% of the plan, the total yield was 8.4 million tonnes.

As UNIAN reported, the harvesting of early grain and leguminous crops is over, and the yield is 38 million tonnes.

The ministry predicts the grain harvest in 2016 may grow to 63 million tonnes.
