Ukraine expects inflation slowdown by year-end

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade believes that the inflation trend will be slowing down in the last months of 2016, according to the analytical report posted on the ministry`s website.

The report claims that the formation of price dynamics in the domestic consumer market until year-end will be influenced by the gradual expansion of domestic demand and food market saturation, which will partially compensate for the rising cost of utility services (in particular more expensive hot water supplies and central heating) and the accumulated devaluation effect generated in the early fall.

The Ministry of Economic Development reminded that after three months of deflationary dynamics, consumer prices in September rose compared with August – the inflation stood at 1.8%.

According to the ministry, the reasons for the growth of consumer inflation in September lay in the methodological features of calculation of prices of seasonal clothing and shoes, as well as the typical rise in price of services in the education field.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine stood at 1.8% in September 2016 compared to August, while during the previous three consecutive months, consumer prices decreased in month-to-month terms.

In annual terms, the inflation rate in September 2016 against September 2015 slowed down from 8.4% recorded the previous month to 7.9%.

Since the beginning of the year, in January-September, consumer prices rose by 6.4%.
