Ukraine, Canada may complete talks on free trade area in summer – Canada Ambassador

Ukraine and Canada expect to complete all the negotiation procedures under the Agreement on free trade area between the two countries as early as this summer, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada in Ukraine Roman Vashchuk told reporters at a Kyiv briefing.
The Ambassador said he hopes that the two governments will be able to finalize the negotiation process as early as in the summer of this year, making sure all procedures have been completed.
UNIAN memo. Negotiations on the free trade area between Ukraine and Canada were launched in early 2015 and by mid-summer 2015, the talks came to the final stage. The agreement was initialed, and a procedure of legal expertise is now ongoing.
Canada ranks 54th in the list of Ukraine`s trading partners. At the end of 2015, the volume of Ukrainian exports to Canada amounted to $30.2 million and imports were at $206.2 million. The key export item to Canada was the Ukrainian metallurgy products, while the most significant imports were the products of mineral chemistry.
