Ukraine bans another Russian TV channel

The National Council for Broadcasting has excluded the Russian Nostalgia TV channel from the list of foreign programs allowed to broadcast in Ukraine, the press service of the regulator reported.
”By the decision of the National Council of July 28, the Russian Nostalgia TV channel is withdrawn from the list of foreign programs whose content meets the requirements of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and the laws of Ukraine,” the report read.
According to the press service, the logo and TV splash screen are decorated in the communist style, which is contrary to the law ”on the condemnation of the Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the prohibition of their symbolism propaganda.”
”The TV channel is decorated with symbols of the Soviet Union, the logo contains the image of a hammer and sickle, and the splash screen has the image of the Soviet Union flag and a red star, etc.,” the press service of the National Council explained.
The regulator also recorded other violations during Nostalgia`s broadcasting. In particular, during an advertising and entertainment program ”The fate of philosophy”, the viewers were provided paid services and there was no channel logo.
According to the decision of the National Council, the Ukrainian providers will have to withdraw the Nostalgia channel from their packages of TV programs.
