Ukraine, Azerbaijan to restore Odesa-Brody pipeline project

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko discussed prospects of cooperation in fuel and energy sphere with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in the framework of the official visit to Azerbaijan, the Ukrainian president`s press service reported.
”We have instructed to restore this [Odesa-Brody pipeline] project because Azerbaijan supplies very large volumes of oil to the European market and is becoming a transit country for the states located on the east coast of the Caspian Sea,” said Ilham Aliyev.
”The restoration of this project creates good opportunities,” the Azerbaijani president emphasized, adding that a ”triangle between the Caspian, Black and Baltic Sea” has a potential for cooperation.
The parties discussed the implementation of the project in detail, in the framework of common work aimed at supplying Azerbaijani energy resources to the EU in the most efficient and economically beneficial way.
President Poroshenko emphasized that the main attention at the meeting had been paid to the involvement of Azerbaijan`s resource potential and Ukraine`s transit opportunities.
The counterparts have also discussed specific projects on the access for Azerbaijani investors to the Ukrainian fuel market.
”We will comprehensively facilitate this access,” Poroshenko said.
In his turn, Aliyev reminded that Azerbaijani state oil company Socar had already been operating in Ukraine. It has already invested $200 million and has over 60 petrol stations.
