Ukraine agricultural sector sees almost 40% increase in revenue

Ukrainian agricultural producers report a 37% increase in dollar terms in their revenues last year to $4.1 billion as compared to the previous year, and a growth by 2.5 times in hryvnia terms to UAH 89.5 billion, Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Oleksiy Pavlenko wrote on Facebook.
”In 2015, agricultural producers posted record net profit of UAH 89.5 billion (against UAH 35.3 billion in 2014), despite the hryvnia`s weakening. Net profit in dollar terms amounted to $4.1 billion in 2015, as compared to a net profit of $3 billion in 2014,” according to the minister.
The minister reported that higher cost of inputs has been offset by an increase in purchasing prices of agricultural products, ensuring the profitability of agricultural companies in the national currency at 45.9%, the best figure over the past ten years.
The most profitable crops are traditionally sunflower seeds (80.3%), rape seeds (44%), grain leguminous crops (43.2%), soybeans (-38.4%). Total profitability of crop production stood at 50.9%.
According to the report, certain types of livestock production in Ukraine remain unprofitable, making the overall profitability of livestock production in 2015 at 22.6%. Growing cattle for meat production was loss-making – UAH 0.7 billion, with a negative profitability of -17.2%. Profitability of growing sheep and goats was almost -30%, wool production at -62.5%.
As UaPosition reported earlier, experts of the Agrarian Economics Institute forecast the profitability of Ukrainian agricultural production in 2015 at 22% in hryvnia terms, which was 13.2% lower than the previous year`s figure. Profitability of livestock production was projected at 8% (lower by one-third than in 2014), and profitability of crop production at 26% (lower by 11% than in 2014).
