U.S. State Department praises Ukraine on Minsk progress

According to U.S. Department of State Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner, Ukraine has already implemented most of the Minsk agreement terms, while Russia and the Russian-backed separatists failed to take the same steps, according to Ukraine Today.
”Both sides need to fulfill the commitments that they made under Minsk. We have seen and we`ve talked about the fact that Ukraine has made some serious steps and serious progress on meeting its own commitments with regard to Minsk. We`ve yet to see the separatists, the Russian-backed separatists, take those same steps”,Toner said during the press briefing on April 27, Ukraine Today reported.
Rejecting allegations concerning pressure on Ukraine`s government to hold Donbas elections by July, Toner noted that the U.S. main concern is that they should be held in accordance with international standards and Ukrainian constitution.
”If they can be held by July, as long as they meet those requirements, then I think we would welcome that. But those are fundamental, I think, things we`re looking to see”, he said.
Toner also commented on Victoria Nuland`s recent trip to Ukraine, highlighting that combating corruption ”continues to be a major concern to average Ukrainians who are seeking to have stronger political institutions”.
