U.S. calls on Russia to change course

The United States, after the G20 summit where the West demonstrated its united stand against the actions of the Russian leadership, continues to urge Russia and its proxies in the occupied part of Ukraine to change their course and ensure the peaceful settlement of the crisis.
A respective statement was made on Thursday by U.S. Ambassador to the OSCE Daniel Baer, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“Ukraine has made clear through word and deed that it is committed to implementing the Minsk agreements and to pursuing national unity and peace. President Poroshenko has gone to great lengths to uphold the Ukrainian government’s part of the agreement with Russia, and the separatists it backs, by taking positive steps to implement the twelve points of the Minsk Protocol,” the U.S. diplomat said.
At the same time, he said it was unacceptable that neither Russia nor the Russia-backed separatists have reciprocated Ukrainian efforts.
He said that the Minsk agreements provided a roadmap to a peaceful outcome in Ukraine. “Yet a political solution cannot be reached if only one side is committed to forging it; one cannot effectively implement this roadmap with parties who fail to keep their word. Russia and its proxies must change course,” Baer said.
