Turchynov encourages national production of ammunition

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov initiates the development of a state program aimed at boosting national production of ammunition, the NSDC press service reported.
Turchynov made the relevant statement during his visit to a state joint stock holding company Artem, where he held an interagency meeting devoted to setting up the Ukrainian production of ammunition.
According to Turchynov, over the recent years, especially the two years of hostilities in the country, Ukraine has been using ”ammunition stocks inherited from the Soviet army.”
”However, these stocks are not limitless, with the lion`s share of them having been thoughtlessly disposed of or sold at the time when no one could have imagined the country at war,” Turchynov said.
There is no other alternative but to ”launch own production of a wide range of ammunition, including cartridges and large-caliber missiles” in order to bolster Ukraine`s defense capabilities, according to Turchynov.
The NDSC Secretary also stressed that the state program for the national production of ammunition should be implemented at a rapid pace. Turchynov added he was planning to involve around 800 Ukrainian companies operating in different economic sectors into the program.
”These are chemical and engineering enterprises, as well as many other related businesses and organizations,” Turchynov said.
