Turchynov calls on PACE to continue pressurizing Russia

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov and PACE President Anne Brasseur have discussed in Oslo the question of Russian aggression against Ukraine, the speaker’s press office has reported.
“This is a crucial moment now. Russia aims not to reach peace in Ukraine but to destabilize the situation. However, there is a possibility to force Russia to stop its aggression. That is why it is important to continue exerting pressure on Russia until all Russian weapons and its service members are withdrawn from the territory of Ukraine, and until all the provocations and shelling of our territory are stopped and strict control on the Ukrainian-Russian border is resumed,” Turchynov said.
He said that now it is the Russian side and terrorist groups subordinate to it that constantly violate the cease-fire, trying to disrupt the settlement peace plan.
In addition, Turchynov stressed the importance of international observers continuing to monitor the situation.
The sides also paid attention to the future of the early parliamentary elections and reform of legislation in Ukraine. According to Turchynov, the country needs a complete reboot of power.
Brasseur, in turn, said that PACE would continue to support Ukraine and was fully ready to assist the country in reforming national legislation.
The Verkhovna Rada chairman is on an official visit to Norway to participate in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliaments.
