Thorbjorn Jagland: We must do everything to save life of Savchenko

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland will not terminate his attempts to convince the Russian authorities of the need to release Ukraine’s MP, member of PACE Nadiya Savchenko, who is illegally detained in Moscow prison.
Secretary General said this at the PACE meeting, answering a question from member of Spanish delegation Pedro Agramunt, an Ukrinform correspondent has reported.
“It’s very important. I will continue doing everything to release her [Savchenko]. Whatever the reason for imprisonment is, we have to do everything to save her life,” Thorbjorn Jagland said.
According to Jagland, he has repeatedly raised the issue of Savchenko’s release before the Russian authorities, but has done that “less publicly, because it is a rather sensitive issue”; however “now the situation is critical.”
When asked by member of Austrian delegation is there a possibility to deliver Savchenko to “the third countries”, Jagland said that the issue must be addressed as a humanitarian one.
Yesterday, the PACE adopted the resolution on Russia, which, inter alia, includes the demand to release Nadiya Savchenko within 24 hours.
