Talks in Minsk may continue in Normandy format

A meeting in the Normandy format could be held after a meeting of the trilateral contact group in Minsk.
Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration Valeriy Chaly said this at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“The trilateral group resolves only operational and tactical issues, but there are also political issues. I do not exclude that there could be further discussions in the Normandy format,” he said.
Chaly said that the format of talks could be “modified,” but when there are final outcomes of the negotiations guaranteeing the securing of all achievements, “then there might be the widest model – the UN.”
“Both the EU and the United States should have been among the participants, but at this stage, I think, all parties understand that they have to use all mechanisms that give the result today,” he said.
He also advised not to expect significant results from today’s meeting in Minsk.
“I think that it’s unnecessary to expect the results today. Work will begin today, and a certain concrete result should be reached by the end of Friday. The main thing is that we have finally managed to ensure with some pressure that this trilateral group meets and works,” he said.
