Talks in Astana depend on Putin – Foreign Mimistry

The scheduled talks of the leaders of the “Normandy Four” countries in Astana depend on the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his readiness to start the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Ambassador at Large of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Dmytro Kuleba said this in an interview to Radio Liberty, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“Everything currently depends on concrete individual, on the position of Vladimir Putin and his willingness to accept a compromise,” Kuleba said.
The diplomat stressed that Ukraine implements the Minsk agreements. “We need Russia’s readiness [to implement the agreements],” he said.
As reported, a meeting in the Normandy format at the level of the presidents of France, Ukraine, Russia and the chancellor of Germany on the Ukrainian crisis settlement, which was earlier planned to be held on January 15 in Astana, has been postponed for several weeks. During the preparatory work, the parties were unable to reach an agreement on issues which could provide substantial progress in resolving the situation in Donbass.
It is expected that the tripartite contact group on resolving the situation in Donbas will hold a regular meeting this week to continue preparations for a meeting of the leaders of the “Normandy Four” countries. It is planned that the Foreign Ministers of the mentioned countries would continue talks next week, if the contact group will be able to make a step forward in negotiations.
