Minister of Defense of Sweden Peter Hultqvist commented on Russia`s decision to move its nuclear-capable advanced Iskander missiles to Kaliningrad, considering this a provocative signal policy, according to Sydsvenskan.
”This is something that we see as a provocative signal policy fundamentally, because it creates a sharper situation throughout the region. Especially considering possible nuclear carriers, which gives this an extra dimension,” says Peter Hultqvist, Sydsvenskan reported citing TT news agency.
The minister emphasized that Russia regards their move as a response against NATO`s military presence in the Baltic states and Poland. ”Then, one must remember that the military presence of NATO is based on the wishes of these countries,” said Hultqvist. ”And that, in turn, is a consequence of the annexation that took place in Crimea and the armed conflict taking place in Ukraine and the overall increase in training activities on the Russian side.”
As UNIAN reported earlier, Russia was moving nuclear-capable missiles into Kaliningrad, a tiny Russian enclave sitting between Poland and Lithuania. Poland has already called the move an inappropriate response to NATO`s activities in the region, according to Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski.
