Stoltenberg: NATO supports Ukraine, but cannot give it weapons

The North Atlantic Alliance supports Ukraine, both politically and practically, and is ready to strengthen cooperation, but it cannot provide the country with weapons.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk in Brussels on Monday, according to NATO’s website.
“NATO doesn’t possess weapons or equipment. So NATO does not provide equipment to any partner; because we don’t possess them. Then, it’s up to each individual NATO Ally to decide what kind of support, what kind of equipment they provide,” he said.
As reported, Ukraine calls on its Western allies to provide it with defensive weapons in the current armed confrontation with pro-Russian separatists and regular Russian troops in the east of Ukraine, but Western partners do not hurry to provide such assistance.
