Newly appointed Minister for Information Policy Yuriy Stets has said he supports the liquidation of the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting.
He said this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“As for a constitutional body, which is the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting, amendments regarding the functioning of this institution are made by the Verkhovna Rada, and 300 votes are required for this… I will be grateful to deputies if they find 300 votes and disband this body,” he said.
He said that after the adoption and entry into force of the law on public television, which is to be introduced next year under the auspices of the Information Policy Ministry, the activity of the respective committee would be the same and ineffective.
However, Stets said that it would be very hard to find 300 votes of deputies for the decision to liquidate the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting.
